Rimegepant, which is sold under the brand name Nurtec ODT, is a medication used for the acute treatment of migraines in adults. And used in the prophylactic/preventive treatment of episodic migraine in adults. Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) is usually taken by mouth to dissolve on or under the tongue. The medication works by blocking CGRP receptors, which helps to prevent and/or stop migraine pain and any inflammation in the brain.

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) usually has very limited side effects. However, nassau and stomach pain are some of the more common side effects experienced in patients. With around 3% of prescribed patients saying that they’ve felt some degree of nausea from use.
Common side effects include:
Nausea (up to 3%)
Stomach pain or indigestion (up to 2%)
Other less common side effects include:
Shortness of breath
Skin rash
A 1 dose pack of Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) is around 8 oral disintegrating tablets that contain around 75 mg of rimegepant each. For the treatment of migraines, a typical dose is around 75 mg, dissolved under your tongue as needed. Prevention of migraines is a very similar dose amount with the same 75 mg dosage dissolved under the tongue.
Recent clinical studies have shown that in migraine treatment, about 20% of people who took Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) became migraine free within 2-hours of their initial dose. In addition, up to about 40% of people were free of other bothersome migraine symptoms, such as light and sound sensitivity and nausea, 2 hours after they took Nurtec ODT (rimegepant).
In another 3-month limited clinical study looking at migraine prevention, people who took Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) every other day had on average fewer migraine days per month than those who didn't take any medication.
Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) usually takes around 2-hours to fully work. For migraine prevention, some patients have said that around 1 to 2 months of treatment is required to start seeing signs of common migraines begin to subside.
