Common side effects of Lidex include:
Skin burning, itching, irritation, peeling, or dryness
Thinning or softening of the skin
Skin rash
Swollen hair follicles
Changes in skin color in the treated area
Blisters, pimples, or crusting of treated skin
Stretch marks
Applying Lidex to clean, dry, intact skin can help reduce the risk of side effects. Do not apply to damaged or broken skin. Avoid contact with sensitive areas like the face, underarms, or groin unless your doctor specifically advises you to use Lidex in these areas.
Some side effects may be more likely if the area is covered with an occlusive (airtight) dressing after applying Lidex cream. However, in some instances, your provider may specifically suggest an occlusive dressing based on your condition (e.g., psoriasis). It’s helpful to check with your healthcare provider to determine whether they suggest covering the area for your specific needs.
Skin infections may worsen while using Lidex. Contact your doctor if redness, swelling, or irritation doesn’t improve.
Lidex cream 0.05% is applied to the affected area as a thin film two to four times daily depending on the severity of the condition. Fluocinonide is also available in other forms (e.g., liquid solution). The choice of formulation often depends on the location of treatment.
